Removing P2P

Why Remove P2P Programs?

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) programs can and often do cause a variety of problems for computers. Viruses can be spread over these P2P networks. They may also come with malicious programs causing pop-ups to occur, and can even corrupt your computer files. P2P use also can use a large amount of UNI's Internet bandwidth, slowing down Internet access and can expose you to legal liability if you are found sharing copyrighted files.
How to Remove P2P Unfortunately, you cannot remove a program just by clicking on it and putting it in the recycling bin. However, removing the program can be quite easy:

  1. Go to the Control Panel-
    • In Windows XP, click Start, and then select Control Panel
    • In Windows 2000, click Start, select Settings, and then select Control Panel
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon

    control panel
  3. Select the program you wish to remove
  4. To remove the software, click the Change/Remove button

  5. Click OK
  6. Click Finish
Since P2P Programs often come with spyware that are harmful to your computer, you may want to remove these as well. Running a spyware removal program such as Ad-Aware or Spybot should help remove these programs.
