Power outages or a period of inactivity can cause a computer to display the ResNet registration screen even though the computer is already registered. The instructions below should allow you to successfully restore Internet access.

Windows 2000/XP

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type "cmd" and click on OK
  4. Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter
  5. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter

If you continue to have problems after following these instructions, try shutting down your computer. Then plug your network cable into the other orange data jack, and then turn your computer back on. If this does not work, you can try downloading and running the Winsock Fix. If you are still having difficulties after this, please call the ResNet helpdesk at 3-RSNT (3-7768).

  1. Click on Start
  2. On Start Search, type in "command"
  3. Right click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator
  4. If prompted, choose Continue
  5. Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter
  6. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter

If you continue to have problems after following these instructions, try shutting down your computer. Then plug your network cable into the other orange data jack, and then turn your computer back on. If you are still having difficulties after this, please call the ResNet helpdesk at 3-RSNT (3-7768).

 


Macintosh OS 10.3 and Higher

  1. Click on the Apple menu
  2. Click on System Preferences
  3. Click on the Network icon
  4. Make sure Built-In Ethernet is selected and click Continue
  5. Click on the Renew DHCP button

Macintosh OS 10.5 and Higher

  1. Click on the Apple menu
  2. Click on System Preferences
  3. Click on the Network icon
  4. Make sure Built-In Ethernet is selected and click Advanced
  5. Click on the TCP/IP tab
  6. Click on the Renew DHCP button

If you continue to have problems after following these instructions, try shutting down the computer, plugging your network cable into the other orange data jack, and then turn your computer back on. If you are still having difficulties after this, please call the ResNet helpdesk at 3-RSNT (3-7768).
