To have ResNet Internet access and support, you need the following:
1. A network card. Most new computers today have network cards already installed. If your computer does not have a network card (also called an Ethernet card), you may purchase one at a computer or electronics department. All cards are supported by ResNet.
2. A network cable. Your computer will need a network cable, which is different than a phone cord used by a modem. If you do not have a network cable, ResNet sells network cables in UNI purple (20') or gold (40'), which can be purchased in the Redeker Center office or your residence hall office. 20' cables cost $10 and 40' cost $15.
3. A computer that meets ResNet's minimum requirements.
Microsoft Windows:
Windows Vista, XP, or 2000 (3.x, NT, 95, 98, and ME are NOT supported).
Pentium III processor equivalent or higher.
256 MB of RAM.
Macintosh Computers:
OS X.3 or higher installed.
Software:
Windows-based computers must run an updated and currently supported version of anti-virus software.
All critical updates for the computer's operating system must be installed and be configured to get critical updates automatically.
